2/28/1905: Jazz Legend is Born

Louis Metcalf, the famous jazz cornetist and trumpeter, was born on this day in Webster Groves, Missouri. He would go on to play with legends like Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, and King Oliver. He was a key figure in the New York jazz scene and eventually helped pioneer the bebop style in Canada later in his career.

I’m unsure if he played adjacent to any Mason and Hamlins but I’m sure he crossed paths with one at least a few times.
